(More customer reviews)I bought this holster for my Smith and Wesson M&P 40 after using a similar Blackhawk! holster for my Sig 228 at work. These things are tough! They can take a beating and still function well and look great. Unlike my work holster, I bought this one with the finger retention for added surety that my sidearm will stay in my holster until I'm ready to take it out.The retention mechanism is really easy to operate, especially if you draw properly with your finger "pointing" down the slide instead of on the trigger (dangerous!).When you reholster, the weapon easily snaps into place with a satisfying "click" and lets you know it's seated properly.I only wish I hadn't waited so long to buy it, especially since good holsters for the relatively new S&W M&P series are hard to come by.
