(More customer reviews)I got this spray because I am a scout leader and I wanted to have something to protect children with in case of a Bear attack. I would never intentionally go into a known bear area and think this spray would take care of every situation.It is a last resort option.Common sense is your first best way to avoid a bear situation.
I purchased this product because I am camping in National Parks where we have nightly Black bears come through camp. They are searching for food that was left out. I wouldn't spray a bear just because I saw one. I wouldn't use the spray to scare a bear away either. I would use the spray if the bear took an aggressive stance and faced off with us or charged. You can't outrun an adult bear.
This spray was the #1 or a top tier pick of several web sites I visited including 2 Government sites.
The literature suggested that you test the spray with a quick blast prior to using.That has been my experience firing the spray.It produces quite a cloud very quickly.The photos I posted is accurate.
The booklet that came with the product gives a lot of good information on bear safety and detailed product use. It is very well written.
The product is not heavy and came with an elastic snug fitting belt loop holster.The holster is pretty cheaply made.It arrived with stitches pulling out.Nothing I can't fix but it would have been nice to not have to make a repair prior to use.
The expiration date on the can is in 2 years from my purchased date.
If anyone is thinking about using this as home defence, I would be cautious.One blast puts out a 35' cloud of spray.It is not a narrow stream.You are going to be choking on the same fumes as your attacker if you have to move through the area you just sprayed. I posted a picture from the booklet that shows the spray pattern.
